MG MGA - Rad hose
The rad hoses that Moss sold me are cr*p. If you try to bend them, they flatten. What is a good hose part No that has the proper deep convolutions or is the proper moulded shape? Top and bottom. The top one has to form a sort of "S" shape. |

Why "S" shape? As originally set up, the top hose is nearly straight, just a mild curve. |

Art I got mine from Moss UK but quite a few years ago now. Both top and bottom hoses look good........................Mike

Mike, yours has deep convolutions, mine have just bumps which do nothing! |

I purchased a pair from B&G last year, very soft and pliable so easy to fit. After a run with the engine switched off they would expand to a point where I was convinced they would burst. They were returned and I'm back using the old ones. |

Barney, here is the S bend....

Wrong part, wrong angle the orange coloured outlet over the thermostat! See Mike Moore's pic above for the correct angle. Must be more in alignment with radiator. Barry. |

OK, my outlet is from an A60 motor which came with the car, now converted to MkII MGA, but as you say, this part is wrong! Anyway a good flexible hose will work if I can find one. I had no idea there were variations on this part. |

I purchased a set of radiator hoses from moss recently and they were very soft and tended to kink rather than bend. I did not use them but instead went to the local auto parts store and looked for hoses that had formed bends that would work. I found that a Gates hose #21611 had enough bends that I was able to get both upper and lower hoses out of the one Gates hose. Why does Moss change hose designs when we were happy with the ones that they used to supply? It must be a cost savings for them but it is not good for the end user if we will not use them. I even find that I am making some gaskets myself as the ones in their gasket sets are not useable. |

Thanks Ed. That looks like a good choice. First though I will change the T/S housing for the right one. Just looked on eBay and its amazing. The Moss unit is $12 new and there are sellers out there wanting 3X for old ones, plus someone selling the wrong one like mine! |

The MG coolant hoses are a bit tricky, because they are 1-1/8-inch ID. 1-1/4-inch hoses are very common and easily available. The 1-1/4" hose is not correct for concours originality, but it will work, a it constricts easy enough with a screw type hose clamp.
