MG MGA - Radiator Blind
I am looking for a radiator blind. Does anyone have one somewhere on the shelf, or know of a source? Thanks Dominic |

Dominic, Is this the part that was listed as an option originally to block of part of the radiator during the winter ? Koen |

Hi Koen Yes, that's it. I cannot reach a suitable operating temperature without one and I am having ice forming on the inlet manifold under the supercharger (directly above the exhaust!) Dominic |

Dominic, thinking of you with all the ice..wouldn't it be better just to ship it out to Aussie for our summer, but there again you might have overheating problems! |

Dominic Slow down abit in such cold weather, it will soon be spring... Pete |

A square of cardboard cut to size works well for a"red neck" thermostat. |

Dominic I have a rad blind that came off of a Riley. It has all of the pieces and parts but is larger than an MGA rad. I was going to modify it (to fit, which is quite simple) but then realized I would never use it as I don't intend to drive my car in the winter. If you are interested I could send some photos. It is broken down for shipping and would require some minor welding of the basic frame to put it back togaether. Now is the time to let me know as I have the rad out of my MGA (for pressure testing and fixing) and I am tempted to possible install the blind if you are not interested. Let me know. Gord |

Hi, The water temperature of my engine only goes to 140° F when driving in outside temperatures below 5° C (41° F). I was wondering if such a blind would help to get it more suitable operating temperatures. Has anyone experience with the blind Dominic is referring to ? Koen |

My part's car originally had a blind--but it was rotted away to a point beyond useless. Got a feeling that happened to most of the original blinds. Shouldn't be too hard to make one, though. |

It's pretty easy to make up a trial wind blocker. Cardboard and bungee cords? The last one I did was a Castrol oil box. Classy. |

Hi Dominic, This wont help you much but you might be interested. My car, a 1960 1600, was originally exported to Switzerland, I think. It still has the bracket, to operate a radiator blind, soldered over the top of the radiator, and the screw holes where the blind was mounted are still there on the panel in front of the radiator. I have another radiator as a spare and may be swapping them over shortly. I am still trying to find the history of my car on the continent of Europe - it is black/red interior and was reimported from Holland in 1996.Cheers Cam |
