MG MGA - Radiator blind

Has anyone got a picture of this fitted ' particularly the way the tube for the operating cable passes over the top of the radiator.

I would also appreciate any pictures or info for the routing of the cable in the engine bay, through the firewall and the mounting of the end of the cable / chain at the dash.

Thanks to Gord, the blind has now arrived and after renovation can be fitted. I'm slowly acquiring all the optional extras!

Glad to hear you got the piece. With your abilities you should be able to get it mounted. As far as pictures look up Barney's site under coupe options. There are some diagrams there. Also I have seen some hand drawings in one of the major catologs. You can also look in Clausagher book where there are pictures. Good luck and send us all some pics of that super charged engine with its new ear muffs. Gord
PS: Did you solve your icing problem yet?

Hi Dominic, My MGA was a RHD MkI originally exported to Switzerland in 1960 ( according to the heritage cert ) and amazingly the radiator still has the tube soldered to the top of the radiator and the holes for the blind mounting are still on the plate in front of the radiator and some unidentified holes in the .Will take a photo if it will help - Cheers Cam

Hi Cam

Yes please.

Gord, the icing problem has diminished considerably with the use of a 3mm solid copper head gasket to reduce the compression ratio. The so**ing thing has to be redone because it is now weping water up the cylinder head studs and out through the threads (sigh), but it's running a full 20c warmer than before. But I'm still going to mount the blind because it has warmed up a little here and I am still not happy with the operating temp.

I'll look at the sources you mention but will still appreciate photos from real installations that show the real nitty gritty.

Thanks to both

Dominic

Hi Dominic, I have put a couple of photos of the radiator in my car on my club's website , www.westlancsmg.co.uk in the toolbox section - hope they are of some use.
By the way I still have no history of my car from its time in Switzerland/Germany/Holland (1960-1996) - any information regarding the Black /red interior low mileage (kilometerage) MGA would be appreciated.

Thanks for the photos, I have downloaded them. Can you also provide on of the duct panel in front of the rad?

For your car, please provide me the chassis number and (if you have any idea) the old registration number of the car here, and I'll see what I can do by asking around. Who did you buy it from?

If anyone else has photos of a blind that is fitted I would still be really grateful.

Hi Again Dominic, I took another photo of the blind mounting holes on the duct panel in front of the radiator - now on the club website (www.westlancsmg.co.uk)in the toolbox page again.- the holes are not easy to see in the photo - they are quite small and could be from self tapping screws rather than bolts. They are about 23cm apart. I will email you details of my car - if you can find any history I would be most grateful..
Cheers Cam
