MG MGA - Radiator for 1800
Is the original MGA radiator adequate for a MGB 1800 engine? |
JM Mercer |
Yes, if it's in good condition. |

Depends on your climate in my opinion. I had my stock radiator re-cored with a 2-row MX core, which is higher efficiency than the original. It's fine in mild weather but cannot keep the 1800 cool in hot Summer months. As a reference, the temperatures reach over 110-degrees in my area. In 80-degree weather I have no problems. |

Perfectly adequate as long as it is in new condition. I had no problem in Reno in July with an MGB engine and newly boiled out MGA rad (except getting used to temps that never came below 200, but the local MGA guys say this is normal) |

Bill. Yes, unfortunately, this is normal. But, on the bright side, higher engine operating temperatures equate to less engine wear. Within reason, of course. Les |

Thanks for the info. The raditor which was in the car had been recored at some time in the past, but sprung a leak. I have a brand new MGA radiator which has been sitting in my basement for quite a while. I'll put it in this weekend. Joe |
