MG MGA - Radiator hose alternative
One mainly for Australian owners. My bottom radiator hose is perishing so I had a look for an alternative fearing that the replacements of the original types might be of inferior quality at present. My car doesn't have a heater so I wanted a hose to replace both the bottom hoses at once. I found a suitable hose at Supercheap Autos, Grommet GR 13 which is original part number 2812209 top hose suitable for Holden Statesman and Torana 1971-80 without aircon. I trimmed 1/2" from the top (probably not necessary) and it fits very well. It is 1 1/4" internal diameter rather than 1 1/8" but tightens up fine with jubilee clips. |

Keith, One of the main concerns when fiiting a non-standard radiator hose is the rigidity of the replacement hose. Does it allow for side to side movement of the engine (quite a bit) and fore and aft movement (very little if any)? This check is necessary to ensure that excessive loads are not placed on the joints of the radiator inlet and outlet fitings. Mick |

There is plenty of flexibility. The replacement is not a rigid hose and because the full length is rubber it would allow more movement with less stress on the radiator than the original. |
