MG MGA - Radio Faceplate
I ran across this radio for a great price and it works great.. problem is the faceplate is too small for the MGAs opening. Does anyone have a source for vintage car radio shops that might have a faceplate or two lying around? The critical dimentions of the faceplate would be 7 3/8 x 2 3/8 the distance between the shafts are 5 3/16 the face plate opening for the dial face is 3 5/8 x 1 1/2 . |

I put radios in both of my MGA's and seldom use them. I would not spoil an MGA with a radio! |

Why not make your own faceplate using a blanking panel? |

Chuck, I have considered that option, have even laid it out and marked it on the blanking plate, but cannot seem to find a suitable cutting tool that would make a nice cut out for the dial face that would look presentable on the car. |

Barry.. I will trade you my blanking plate for one of your radios? :-) Seriously, I like having a radio in the car, not one of the listen to the exhaust note crowd. |

Can't find a suitable cutting tool David.. :-)) Its called a drill, a hacksaw and a file. and a good bit of elbow grease. :-) |

As Robert said, drill the appropriate hole size in the 4 corners to get the required radius. Then connect the dots with a saber-saw, jigsaw, or whatever. File as required. I would normally run a piece of masking tape tangent to the ouside of the drilled holes or run an Exacto scribed line and file up to the edge of the tape or line. This is one application where the black-krinkle finish of the aftermarket blanking plate would be a good finish. File from front to back to reduce the likelyhood of flaking off the paint. Paint the filed edge with matte black paint. Not much to it. If you screw-up you are only out a few bucks and an hour's time. Or find a friend with a mill or laser cutting machine. Offer him a six-pack and a ride. |

Who can hear a radio in an MGA roadster? Only at traffic lights! |

Try calling Charles at Vintage Radio Repair in Alabama, tel: 205-491-5532. They did a great job fixing the Lucas 8-track tape player I have in my A and may be able to help you with your issue. |

We can all make fun of a radio in our MGAs but try and take first place in a judged show without a Radiomobile Radio. I've been there down at a Fathers-day show in Sussex Wi. and it ain't gonna happen. Tom |

If anyone is interested, I have an origional radiomobile faceplate. It is rusted but you can still see some of the origional radiomobile decal. Have a good day! John |
