MG MGA - Radiomobile 50T

I bought a good working Radiomobile model 50T recently and am surprised how well it works (although it takes a short while to "warm up". I am interested to know if anyone can help with any literature on how to maintain this! (Or even a copy of the operating instructions.)

Could I manage with a generic valve radio repair publication?

I am sure that I will have to replace valves or loose wires or something, sometime in the future to keep this working, but I don't have any experience of that! Is anyone experienced in this?

To prepare I also bought a model 20T that is not working for spare parts (It actually looks very nice though so I intend to use the facia and knobs etc. to have built as an fm unit for my other MGA - I believe that Vintage Wireless do that).

I have downloaded the installation instructions already.

BTW if anyone is after an original radio, there's one ending soon on eBay.

Vintage Radio World at

lists servive data sheets for sale for the 50T. I haven't seen them so don't know how much info is included but you will certainly get a circuit diagram.

I had my Radiomobile 970 restored at AC James in Bristol and would recommend him.
Have a look at his site,he will no doubt have some info on the 50T http://www.radios.freeserve.co.uk/

I am surprised that the ebay radio made $610.00. If is so dersirable I would say that it is worth sending your radio to AC James for a service. It may not be that expensive,I paid £36 for a repair/service to my radio and it worked much better.Robert

Neil when I started work and served my apprenticeship as an electrical and Instrumentation engineer, I worked in heavy industry. I started in 1969 and we were surrounded by Valve equiped electronic equipment. We had at that time a machine that could check the operation of every valve known to man. Generally if you removed every valve from a piece of equipment and tested them you would find a faulty one and changing this would cure the problem. I used to make a bit of money this way mending TVs!!

Anyway the point I am making is if you were to get a set of spare valves you could be equiped to make the repair yourself if it became necessary. Well 9 times out of 10!
Bob (robert) yes I own an MG Dwarf!

It was worth reading the ebay ad. as it had a link to a list of concours requirements, which make interesting reading!!

Thanks for the help, I will order the data sheet from Vintage radio world.

Robert, after your second post I felt a double guilt! First for wanting to rebuild the model 20T as an FM radio and then for drawing attention to the eBay sale, it was only at about 67 quid when I posted!

Anyway I took another look at the 20T and it's a mess inside, so I think it's best to keep what can be re-used as spare parts for the 50T (now I know it's valuable enough to keep in perfect order) and re-use the case/fascia.

That radio sold for an unusually high price. Somebody must have really wanted it. Other Radiomobile models have sold (from the same vendor) for $250 or so over the last two years.
