MG MGA - Raising engine temp
Just a record of the progress: Reducing the compression ratio with a 3mm solid copper gasket has increased running temp by a full 20C, with no use of the radiator blind. Only problem is that the engine is now weeping water at half of the head studs (coming up the threads and seeping out through the stud nuts!), so it's all got to come off again for a gasket above and below the solid one (I just have one below it right now). The cause of the overly high compresssion ratio has now been identified as a result of mating a 1500 ported head to a 1622 block. The 1622 Hi compression head has a combustion chamber that is about 5cc bigger than the 1500 / 1600 head. The copper gasket brings that 5cc back. |
