MG MGA - Rear brakes locking on
Just had my annual MOT and the examiner issued me with an advisory about the rear brakes being to sharp (grabbing on one side) and out of balance. I've had a quick look and there is nothing obvious although one rear brake does come on quicker than the other so my first step will be to change the shoes. I was wondering if the MGA has a limiter to reduce pressure to the rear brakes? |

Having just had something similar you should check the wheel cylinder on the dragging side. Also, check to make sure the parking brake is adjusted correctly. That can cause a lock on the rear wheel as well. This was the problem in my case. Cheers, Christopher |

John, It could be the dreaded common oil leak from the axle contaminating the lining. This will be very obvious when you take the drum off. See Barney's website for the recommended solution. If the linings are clean but the car isn't used too often you may have a partly seized cylinder. Malcolm |
