MG MGA - Rear Gearbox Seal
Can you remove and replace the rear seal in a gearbox with it still in the car by removing just the drive shaft? Also is there a trick to rempoving the old meatel covered seal? |

Yes. Just get a hammer and thin chisel to deform the edge of the seal, and then just prise it out. Use a large socket as a drift to fit the new seal |

You should be able to replace it in the car. the old one can gbe driven off with a hammer and drift. Since I believe you have the motor out, why not pull the trans to do the seal change. You can also remove the side cover and have a look inside while it is out. You can unbolt the clutch slave, remove the shifter, and then remove the single miounting bolt and pull it out the engine compartment. |
