MG MGA - Rear hub bearing seating depth

Does anyone know the proper seating depth of the bearing in the rear hub ? When seated mine seem awfully far from the oil seal. here are photos from both front and back of the hub.

Chris, nice photo collection. The bearing goes in as far as it can, there is no option to seat it otherwise. the gap between bearing and seal is irrelevant. If it is not seated as far as it can go, then you will not get a closure of the outside of the bearing when the axle is fitted. Fit this part up with gasket (and O ring on some hubs) and check there is no gap. If there is, bolt it up and it will press the bearing in fully.

Nice photos - Your "mystery bushing" is for the front eye of the rear spring.

Art is correct about the bearing seating. It's essential to get this in far enough that the half shaft can seal against the bearing acrrier, otherwise you will always have oil in the brakes
