MG MGA - Rear suspension lowering
I recall someone recommending lowered chrome-bumper MGB front springs to drop the ride height of an "A." Has anyone successfully fit Moss's MGB rear suspension lowering kit to an "A"? Moss lists a different stock u-bolt for the two cars leading me to think that it won't work, but it would appear that the early "B" rear axle and suspension are about the same as the "A." Ken |

Well, Sort of, yes. I strapped a late B axle and U-bolts on my A springs. I also fit the rear lowering kit. I believe the block will be fine but the diameter of the late B housing was larger. You would need extended length U-bolts to fit the Banjo axle. I fit the front lowering springs too. Nice, mean stance, imho. |

Moss offers a kit for both the early "B" banjo axle and the later "B" tubular axle. I thought maybe the early "B" banjo axle kit and u-bolts might also fit the "A" banjo axle. Do you know what difference there is between the "A" banjo axle and the early "B" banjo axle? Ken |

Early MGB banjo axle is very similar to MGA, except different brakes. Same inboard splines, wheel bearings and hub seals as late MGA MK-II. Different hubs with larger wheel studs. It will bolt right onto the MGA leaf springs with same U-bolts and pads and original MGA propshaft. So yes, the early MGB lowering kit should work. You may need to shorten the rebound straps which are not the same between MGA and MGB. Any lowering kit for the MGA should include shorter rebound straps (and maybe shorter shock links). |

Thanks Barney. Both Moss and Victoria British list a different u-bolt fot the "A" and the early "B" but I couldn't see why. And SJS, have you got a photo of your "A?" Ken |

There may be a difference in the stack height of the leaf spring and packing, but the axle tube is the same. |
