MG MGA - Rebuilt engine start up??
58 coupe project....body is off, floorboards r out, tunnel is removed, now I'm ready to remove engine and trans....after all this work I sure would like to start and adjust the newly rebuilt engine and test clutch and trans before putting everything back together and the body back on...is there an easy way to do this..seems like I will only have to rig a temporary radiator and jack up the rear wheels......is it just that simple....thanks.. Wood floor, 5gal bucket, rad, hot wire (starter)& (coil/points), oil/temp gauge. Pull the cable. Or do what I did waite 4 years, ran like a top. |

Mike, That is all you have to do--I did it. I made a radiator mount, mounted the master cylinder and a bracket for the steering column and I drove my just body-less chassis with newly rebuilt engine, transmission, suspention, etc. It was great to drive the car even without a body after all that work. It's the only way to really check it out at that stage. (It is easier to drive if the floorboard are in the car and you mount a temporary seat). Jim |
