MG MGA - Removing nuts from the manifold bolts
Hello LBC folks I am trying to replace the exhaust system on my 1956 MGA but the old pipe doesn't like my intentions..... Can you please give me some good hints how I can loosen the three nuts from the bolts that hold the pipe-flange to the manifold. Soaking the bolts/nuts with loosening spray didn't help. Should I try to loosen the nuts with a pneumatic impact tool? Your thoughts are deeply appreciated. Hansueli |

50/50 ATF (automatic transmission fluid) and acetone. Best penetrating oil ever and let soak overnight. Try again. If no sucess soak again and try again next day. If they still won't budge.... heat. ... CR |

Thank you guys for your advices which are greatly appreciated. I understand the answer is patience and perseverance. MAndrus, I like your advice about the Swiss clock treatment, because as a Swiss citizen, I have a tendency to do exactly that... ;) |

You can always take a dremel tool and cut them off. Then use brass nuts next time. |

I've had some success using a nut splitting tool on other stubborn nuts. This tool will not damage the stud threads like a Dremel can. My application was near the fuel tank so I was reluctant to use an open flame. Nut splitters are not expensive and readily available at many auto parts shops. Tom |
