MG MGA - replacement fan belt for alternator conversion

I installed the Moss alternator conversion kit on my '59 1500. Am very happy with it. Am going on a trip this weekend and want to pick up a spare fan belt. Took the information that came with my belt to Autozone with me and they couldn't cross reference. Does anyone know what replacement belt would work with the Moss part #460-990. (QBA 900)?
Cheers, Jerry

Jerry, a Google search shows the QBA900 as either a 9.5 or 10 mm x 900 mm v-belt. Fits a TR7 probably others. any NAPA or AutoZone should be able to cross it from either the size mentioned, or bring in your original, they can measure it.

I suggest you try to fit it before storing it away in the boot. Sometimes........

I took a Moss belt to Car Quest and they cross-referenced it. I'm sure NAPA and the other Auto parts stores can. Does you have the baynet type regulator on your car ? If, so did you the Moss sundries kit that uses the crimp on connector?? Mike

Jerry,
NAPA 7360. I found that the belt supplied with the Moss kit was slightly short for my 3 bearing 1800 engine.

One of the issues that will determine fan belt length is the pulley diameter - various diameter pulleys are made for the B-series engine. The 1800 engine for example runs a different diameter water pump pulley and crankshaft pulley to the 1500.

The alternator diameter is another issue, most have a large diameter and therefore require a longer belt to cater for the extended offcentre pulley centre. However, others are made the same size as the original generator - I believe Terry Drinkwater runs one.

FWIW I am running standard late 1800 pulleys all round with my alternator and use a 10x950 fan belt - Bosch 7601.

Jerry Murphy, I'm the one from the suburb of Peoria.. You must be near by to know there is a town by that name in Illinois....See you in Abington? or is it Abingdon?? I ordered a 43 amp Lucas alternator from O'reiley's and I have a regulator with Lucar (baynet) connectors. I don't want to splice into any wires thats the reason for my question..... Mike

Mike,
You must be the guy with the sharp MGA that I was parked next to at the British Auto Fair in Peoria a while back. The one that the storm blew through. I'm from Tiskilwa.
