MG MGA - Rev counter pinion housing
Hi can someone please advise what keeps the pinion shaft in the rev counter housing that is attached to the engine block. Mark |

There should be a metal sleeve above the seal, and of course that is kept in place with an interference fit in the housing and by the screw cap on the rev counter cable |

The slit steel sleeve only holds the seal in the top. The pinion gear and shaft can fall out the bottom when holding it in your hand. When the assembly is installed in the engine, the pinion gear rests on a "button" projection in the engine block casting. |
