MG MGA - rev counter sender unit
I have a 1500 engine bearing no 15MNH42111 in my MGA. My rev counter is electric however I wish to ask whether the block can be modified to take a mechanical rev counter sender unit. The place where the sender unit normally fits is blocked. Since I suppose this is not the original engine can anyone give me more details regarding this engine from the engine no. |

Yes, the block could be machined to take the rev counter drive. You would also have to put a drive gear on the cam shaft. Since you would have to tear down the engine to do this it would be much better to try to find an original MGA 1500 block. I think that engine would have come from a Morris Oxford. |

I just had this done for a new engine, which Chris Betson should be delivering very soon - the car will be back next week from being fixed, and I am still hoping to be able to drive it again this season. The kitchen is full of newly painted bits that have been through the dishwasher and then spray painted ready to go back on the new engine. |

Many thanks Jeff and Domenic. Most probably I shall leave everything as is but I am pleased that this could be done. The engine and gerarbox are almost ready to go back on the chassis and I am planning to have the car running early next year. Switzerland could provide very nice driving with such a car. Here in Malta the weather is very hot and the island quite small with heavy traffic and it is really my dream to visit a country close by to enjoy the driving of the mga. Thanks again and regards |
