MG MGA - RMI-25 Cooling Treatment
Hi Has anyone used RMI-25 Cooling Treatment. Been tols it drops the temp by 10 degrees? Frank |

Frank, sounds like the old fasioned snake oil. A local engineer tested them all on a vintage car type which constantly warped the internals. With temp. sensors hooked up to half a dozen points he found that the only product that worked was "Water Wetter " It didn't drop the radiater temp much, but it dropped the critical block temp. by carrying the heat away to the radiater to be dispensed to the air. The Aus. agents for it is in Perth. Sean |

I have had persistent overheating problems with both of my 1600's (coupe and roadster) and previous MGA ownership going back over 30 years. I took my roadster to the UK for a series of events in 1996 and at the Silverstone concours practically all (if not all!) had electric radiator fans! My roadster boiled just the other day. I find that getting the rad rodded out every, say five years (maybe more, time flies?) overcomes the problem. The cooling system on MGA's seems so marginal that everything must be 100%. I have commented on this before, I think it must be something to do with airflow through the core, note that Mk2's and MGB's had vertical slats? |

"The cooling system on MGA's seems so marginal that everything must be 100%." I will say that in the 40+ years I've owned and driven MGA's, in every type of weather, I've never had a "heating/cooling" problem, except for the time my radiator sprung a leak. I don't do anything special. No additives (except antifreeze), no special fans. I do run either a stock radiator or the the V Core unit I got from Maine radiator. On the hottest summer days, even in traffic I don't have problems. Cheers, GTF |

On a hot day (90 degrees outside temp) I run between 180 and 190. When I shut it off it will climb well over 210. When I restored the car I installed an aluminum radiator made by Ron Davis Racing. No regrets. If you purchase and aluminum radiator make sure you use teflon tape on all threads to prevent some funky galvanic reaction that prevents the bolts form coming out, including the drain plug. Hope this info helps someone. Cheers. Larry |
