MG MGA - rocker shaft
Gentlemen I need to replace the badly worn rocker shaft on my 1800. I see Moss lists 2 different ones. The stock one for 25.00 and a better one for 85.00. Is it really worth the difference????? Thanks Kris |

IMHO, no. You can change a rocker shaft in about an hour. If you install a new rocker shaft at about 80,000 miles, the entire engine will be worn out before you need the third one. I can think of other things I'd rather do with the cash. |

Good point. We discovered the problem while we were putting in the ST-2001 valve seals you recomended on your web site. My initial observation was the lack of smoke from the tail pipe after it idles for a few seconds. Hopefully that resolves my oil consumption problem. Will be driving 600 miles this weekend which will be the real test. Thanks Barney Kris |

Kris, I've got an 18V engine that's been bored in my A. It's rocker shaft is slightly thicker than earlier heads (as I found out when I tried to fit roller rockers, and had to bore their internal out to fit). That might be why moss have 2 prices, one is for earlier and more common heads and one is for the big valve heads. Good luck, Grant :-) |

No, that's because there seems to be a thing in the UJ about putting oversized shafts in, instead of fixing it correctly. Thus destroying the pillars, and making it impossible to fix once the OS shafts are NLA. FRM |
