MG MGA - Rotor Removal--Thanks
Many thanks for the info in rotor and hub removal. When I told my BFH they would simply pop off with a few "taps"-they did! One question in cataloging all my parts for future reassembly, there is what appears to be a mud guard in the inside of the rotors which I can't seem to find in the Moss or SF catalog. Is this some aftermarket product or are front suspension/brake just diagrams incomplete? |

Joe- Glad that worked - threats are good! Be a little more precise when asking questions, and/or send pics. Are we talking about the round/flat sheetmetal dust shield behind the discs? It was an late intro and most cars do not have it anymore, if they ever did. From car # 102929 wire wheels, #102589 disc wheels. And they are "discs" not "rotors". I use the original British terminology and wish everyone would - it is part of the experience; my experience is from before Americans ever heard of disc brakes and invented their own terminology. FRM, Mia culpa. I will definitely try to use the proper terms for our English cars. I haven't been on site in the over 15 years and then that was on the TD BBS. Yes I was referring to the round/flat sheetmetal dust shield behind the disk. My car is 69414, an early 1600, so someone must have added it later. I'm also one of the 46 people on the planet who doesn't own a digital camera--but I can borrow one. |

Just that old dogs get confused by new words! Shields were retrofitted, as detailed in the WSM. If you do not have a WSM, get now from NOS Locators, great price for the last official version, as long as the supply lasts. Know whatcha mean about the &^#Z(&^% camera, first one I bought wouldn't work at all and after several hours to download the near 1000 page user's manual, it made things no better. Now I have one somebody gave me and I can take pictures - slowly learning how to get the pics to the computer. FRM |

To quote me. PDF suck, computer suck, real books is writ on paper. And the one from NOS is a real factory book AKD600D, Issue 5, not a crepro. Acknowledging that computer copies is better than no copies, but if you are not willing to spend $22, sell your car or give it to me. FRM |

Well, since NOS appears to be SF by another name, I would rather use the crappy PDF than send her any money, if it came to that. Fortunately I don't have to do either since I have my dad's original manual in the grease-stained yellow BMC 3 ring binder. |
