MG MGA - Searchable Workshop Manual with colour pictures
With the intent of bringing the MGA Workshop Manual into the 21st century I have now completed the exercise of converting the available picture-based PDF into editable text, and have started replacing the black and white photos with colour ones. The engravings are often better than the pictures so these I have left as such. The photos have suffered from poor scanning, and are almost useless because of poor contrast. I am at the stage where I need collaborators: I need the remaining missing pictures in colour, and google Inc hasn't been able to deliver. I have shamelessly lifted pictures and stuff from Barney and other sources wherever they are available. I need: 1. someone with a all-drum braked car, for clear pictures of front brakes 2. Someone with an engine that is out of the car and clean - it's the first time in years that I don't have an engine sitting around, and until Dr. Betson returns in September with a van load of stuff, this is stalling progress. 3. Twin Cam owner for various pictures (the one I look after is always in a hurry when repairs are needed) The different chapters are all now in MS-Word, with much bigger pictures than in the original, and I am hoping to have the final versions available as searchable PDFs by the onset of the workshop season (as opposed to driving season) at the end of September. I can convert to google docs for those who don't have Microsoft. So who is willing and able to help with the pictures ? It would also be possible to add similar chapters on common updates, so if anyone has an idea of what would be appropriate, please feel free to contribute. |

Dominic, are you correcting the known errors in the original manual? For instance, the original manual puts the engine crankshaft thrust washers in backwards..... George |

Dominic, Would you care to contact me directly with your E-Mail? I have a long list of mechanical and electrical alterations made to our MG A Coupe'---should these be of interest for your publication. Kind regards, Ian Cowen. |

If there are corrections, please send them to me with a second verifying source (e.g. a link on mgaguru), and the exact section reference As far as modifications, please send a text with clear photos and a structure like the WM and I'll add as an Appendix. |

Hi Dominic, I have drums all round, and now attaching a picture of the front brakes. Hope they may be of some help. I not let me know and I can try and take more suitable pics. Frank |

Dominic, I have many hundreds of Twin Cam photos. What do you want? Complete engines, fitted or out of the car? Individual engine parts? Dunlop disc brake parts? Etc.......... Mick |

I'm off on holiday for a week or so, so please send pictures directly to me by eMail at dominic@clancy.ch. Please reference the WSM and indicate which section the photo should go. I haven't got to the Twin Cam sections yet Mick, but will be sure to take you up on your offer when I do get there. |

Dominic, the correction to the manual for the thrust washer installation is found on a Confidential Service Memorandum and shown as MG 416 on his website. George |

Follow up to my previous post - just checked my original manual and the relevant section is A20 not A14 as stated in the Service Memorandum! My manual reprint is also incorrect. BTW, I first learned of this by attending an engine rebuilding training class at John Twist's University Motors several years ago. George |

Barney's link to the Service Memorandum can be found at CS-205D on his web site. George |

This is for MIck Anderson I am now into chapter J of the twin cam WSM and would also like to update as many photos of the TC sections of the pushrod WSM Could I ask you to look through the tw publications and send me updated images with the relevant reference Fig. A.1 and so on |
Dominic Clancy |
Frank, -- All three of your photos show brakes assembled for clockwise rotation, so they are all for Right Front (no picture of the left side). |

Dominic, Attached is a test photo for your future Twin Cam Workshop Manual. It is fig A.2 |
M F Anderson |
Mick Thanks. That's perfect - but its probably easier to send them by email to dominic@clancy.ch the TC project will be on the back burner for the next month because I will be on holiday for three weeks and I still have a lot to finish off before I can go! |

Following on from my recent publication of a searchable WSM for the pushrod car, I have had some assistance in finishing the Twin Cam version. This is now available in version 1 at the link below There are bound to be errors and I have been promised lots of better images for v2. Feedback appreciated. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1I_aWaleLxY5JotZFwzyqtH0qr3QpkiXY/view?usp=sharing also posted to the yahoo group Mick, your photos are appreciated...... Dominic |
