MG MGA - Setting timing w/ Petronix Distributor
I am planning to replace my distributor and coil in my 1600 MKII with the Petronix distributor and coil available from Moss. Any suggestions about the best way to set the timing? I have converted to negative ground. Otherwise a stock set up. |

Same way you set timing with points, except you can't see when the points open. You can use a test light to see when the circuit makes and breaks. Timing light also works once it's running. |

Barney is correct. I also cleared up some long standing confusion, I spend to much time in books, in that the reason that the Factory Shop Manual only gives static timing instructions is that the more strobe timing light wasn't around when the manual was written. (Thanks to Moss Tech hotline for that wake up call.)I have the distributor and new coil installed and they are running a treat. (Just in case I have the old rig in the boot.) |
