MG MGA - Shock absorber link
In taking off my rear shock absorber the nut securing the link to the lower bracket wouldn't come undone so I had the the whole assemble in the vice and put some pressure on the nut. This only succeeded in rotating the rubber in its spherical housing. My question is does this matter? Formally the rubber looks as if it was fused within its housing but I can't see any obvious signs of slack. |

J H I am guessing that the rubber and bolt are just pressed into the housing. When I put a new link (Moss) on this summer I noticed that when tightening the nut the bolt and rubber turned in the housing. As you mention, no slack and all seems to be working fine. I would be interested to know if the rubber is supposed to be bonded to the housing. Here is an old link from the other side that I replaced sortly after getting my car four years ago. Clunk..the rubber was completely gone. John |
