MG MGA - Side Creen Stow Bag Pattern

Hi all!

I've been away from the MGA and the BBS for some time, so my apologies!

The A has been in France for the past 7 years or so and I recently re-commissioned her and took her down to the Grand Prix De Pau in the South of France. The fuel pump decided to pack up about 30 miles out! I left her at a farm house and managed to get a replacement Facet pump from one of the teams there (Steve Monk from Bodywerkes - awesome guy!!). Got the pump in and running nad made it all the way back to UK. The clutch failed about 30 miles from home! Turned out to be a bad MC, but I changed the slave too and spent most of a day trying to bleed the wretched thing!

So, back to my question.... does anyone have the pattern to make my own stowage bag for the side screens?

Cheers,

Ian

If you want one for going in the boot, this guy makes them for peanuts

If you want one for behind the seats, I would recommend not doing it, as at even 1.74 m I need the seat all the way back, and have to store the side screens in the boot anyway

Ian, If you are bothered about originality then you will have to find which of the two or, maybe, three different patterns of bag you want.
I made up my own bag but I did have a tatty original from which to take patterns. The later bags were less in width at the top ,for seat belts I think, and there were separate 'ears' for two of the LTD fasteners.
Mine is a mid year 1600 (1960)and the bag is made up from six separate pieces of vinyl. Probably the trickiest part of the sewing to get right was the tape edge binding especially around the tight curves.
The only reason I made up my own bag was that I couldn't be completely sure a bought one would be to original design. Some photos follow:-

The original syle side curtain bag is okay if you want a concours car but if you want to protect your good side curtains store them in the boot in a protective cover. I use 3 old bath towels cut to size and sown back to back on three sides, with a couple of ties on the open side to keep the side curtains from sliding out. Works well, my original side curtain bag is for show and to hide the hood when in the stored position.
