MG MGA - Sidescreen reno
I need to replace the front fixed panel on my sidescreen Looking at using 1/16 polycarbonate. Old panel is foggy. Looks difficult as its hemmed in on all 4 sides. Has anyone done this? |

It looks difficult, but not really. Helps out in the sunshine, but just lay the sidescreen on the ground, put a knee on the screen, grab one of the panels, bend, and it will snap out! Installing is the reverse of course. They are pretty flexible, so don't be afraid to be "rough". |

There's some additional commentary about the replacement process on the MGAguru site; link is attached: https://mgaguru.com/mgtech/top/top113.htm |

It may be far easier to polish the the one you have. I just did this with a headlight polishing kit I bought at Harbour Freight. Very good results with gradual light standings then polishing compound The side curtains are original aluminium type with heavy plexiglass windows. The front sections are stationary |

Art. I replaced mine some years ago and discussed the material choice with the supplier who cut the new ones out. I decided against polycarbonate as although it is much tougher than acrylic it is susceptible to scratching and stress cracking. |

Art, I have done this for the side deflectors on my mg td (it has not been necessary on my mga yet). First I polished them just like car headlights and they look good. like new. Then I lost one and made a copy in polycarbonate, it is easy with basic tools and the edges are sanded and polished to give a professional look. |
