MG MGA - Soaking Steering Colum Bushes

Happy with the process in the manual, only thing I'm not sure about is soaking them in Graphite Oil?

I know of Graphite Powder and Graphite Grease but have never come across Graphite Oil. Is it known by another name. I have also been told that they can be soaked in Heavy Grade Oil ie Diff Oil.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

The Castrol website in Australia states that they no longer use graphite in oils, but it is used in many greases. They had used graphite in chainsaw and motorcyle oil (for the chain), but no longer use it.
Do not use hypoid differential oil, you will never get rid of the smell.

Think i used some graphite grease, mixed with some oil and then added graphite powder. Worked great for the bushes. Still trying to get the stains off the carpet downstairs though.............................

There is a light graphite oil called "Lock-Ease" intended for lubricating key lock cylinders, available from Ace Hardware. It works very well for that application.

I soaked my steering column bushes with this stuff last time installed new ones in late summer 2003. The prior ones were soaked with engine oil in 1986 and lasted 17 years, so it could be a while longer before I have a report on the newer ones.
