MG MGA - Soldering fuel line

Hi, Hoping you can help me out with this one! For my MGA project ath I'm working on (1950cc "B" engine) I'm planning on installing fuel injection and so I have to use a higher pressure fuel pump. I'd like to put some tapered fittings onto the the existing copper fuel line. Does anyone know if I can use regular plumbers solder to connect the new brass fitting? Do you think it would be strong enough for about 50 LB of pressure?

Thanks John

It should be OK. Soldering holds up to 50+psi water pressure in home plumbing systems.

But I have to ask, why not braze it? That is done for air conditioning systems which carry much higher pressures.

I agree with Chuck. Soft solder may be OK if you have overlapping surfaces. But it is better to use Silver Solder (brazing) as the joint will not crack when vibrations and pressure occur. Costs would be about the same.

When I was finishing my basement we had to attach a 2 by 6 to the bottom of a steel beam. The nail shot through and pierced an airconditioner line. I went to the plumbing shop that was next door to me. He gave me the proper fitting and a stick of material to solder/braze it with. I had to use my oxy-acytelene torch to get it to flow but it worked just like solder. I have never seen this type of material in a Home Depot/Lowes type store but the a/c pro had it for daily use.
Most modern EFI systems may run at 30 to 50 psi but that is with the fuel pressure regulator allowing excess pressure back to the tank. Blocked off these systems are capable of over 80 and sometimes over 100 psi. That said I used regular solder on copper pipe to run air line in my shop that carry 125+ psi without failure for over 25 years. I see no problem using it.
