MG MGA - Spare tire clamp

I keep thinking that spring is here and almost took the “mistress” out for a long drive today. The name is the result of my wife’s impression that I spend more time and money on my ’59 A than on her (which may be true). This despite the fact that she bought me the car in the first place. Anyway, it was a good thing I didn’t, we got about an inch of rain in just a couple of hours this afternoon. Pretty unusual for the drizzly Puget Sound region.

Weather aside, I have finally gotten my hands on a spare tire clamp. Darn things seem to be worth half their weight in gold. Perhaps not in the same class as metal master cylinder caps, but close. So now I have a clamp and wing nut, but not the bolt and pivot pin. Would anyone have some pictures and/or dimensions of these parts. Moss wants $18 USD for the bolt alone. I am hoping that I can fabricate the part out of standard bolt stock.

Hi John,
I hear you these clamp are very precious indeed, not sure why.

These items sat in my "unknown" box for quite a while before I figured out what they were, shouldn't be to hard to fabricate. The threads on the bolt are 3/8" and the hole is 1/4", the pin is 2".

Good Luck
Bruce

John,
I have a spare one - it's yours for free, if you want it? Send me an email with your address.

Peter,

I will take you up on your very generous offer. I will be indebted to you for eliminating the thunk from the trunk every time I go over a bump.
