MG MGA - Spark Plugs
Are all spark plugs created equal , or with modern technology has anybody got any views of a particular make and grade that suits the 1588cc engine best. Roy |

A lot of folks here have recommended NGK BP6ES in the past, and therefor that is what I run. They work great, but I am sure others would too. JIM in NH |

There is a thread about Iridium Spark Plugs further down this BBS. You may find some of the postings interesting. |

B6ES is what NGK recommend and that's what I use. BP6ES are OK but you may experience pinking and running-on because of the extended nose. |

I have had the best luck with old fashion Champion N5C. I have had good luck finding them at farm supply stores for some reason. |

I recently had problems with Champion plugs arcing in very colorful and misfiring ways. I'd avoid them. |

Barney Gaylord posted some interesting results of a 10 year, 73,000 mile test on a set of Halo (ring cathode) spark plugs. http://www.mgexperience.net/phorum/read.php?2,2267872 |

Yeah, but I would never buy the things. Too expensive. Other then that one test, I have been using Autolite 63 plugs for about 20 years. They're cheap, and the work. What more can you ask? Resistor type Champion plugs are notorious for about 10% failures right out of the box due to too high resistance (like open circuit). |

I'm using NGK BP6ES with no problems. And I run about 9.8 to 1 compression ratio. No pinking. It's my understanding that NGK plugs have a wider, more forgiving heat range. --Jack |

When I used the NGK Part finder online it comes up with BR6ES. Has anyone got experience with them? http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/part_finder/car_truck_suv/results.asp?engineid=34031 |

Kenneth, BR6ES are OK too, but they are resistor plugs and are suited for radio suppression. I have been using BP6ES for the last six or seven years in my MGA 1500, and have never yet experienced any problems with them. Frank |
