MG MGA - speedo + tach cable length

hi - Am in re-assembly mode and am replacing both cables. Both are from moss, one was purchased in the last year and one has been a spare for some time. The car is a 61 1600 LHD. My speedo is on the left and tach is on the right as you sit in the car. My new cables do not seem to be long enough. Have newer cables been shortened? My first attempt was to place the tach cable in its original bulkhead hole (to the left adjacent to engine hood pull). But that could not reach the tach - it does reach when I swap bulkhead hole locations with the speedo, however now the speedo cable is short - anyone having this issue? Will take them out and measure - I have the old cables so it should be interesting. Also, could someone tell me if and where the speedo cable is clipped down - if so, how many clips and where? Should the speedo cable be situated behind any of the fuel or hydraulic lines? Thanks kindly.

I disconnected and measured all the cables for length; The new cables have the correct length. For anyone with a speedometer on the left side, could you tell me which bulkhead hole you have passed it and the tach cable through? You can use Barney's helpful bulkhead diagram for reference - thanks.

The short answer is, I run the speedo cable via the short path through the bracket below the master cylinder.

Is it a mirror image for RHD cars?

As maybe one of the few who has had the same car RHD and LHD I can say that I reused the same cables without any issues at all. I have the gauges in the same position as you. If anything the cables are too long with the RHD cables that I reused when changing to LHD. I have the cables running through the same holes as identified on the bulkhead schematic on Barney's site too.

I haven't got the cables clipped down anywhere either - I figured that if they were free to make their own way then none of the curves would be too tight.
