MG MGA - Speedo Angle Drive...assembley onto 5 spgearbox .?

Just trial assembling parts for the 5 speed conversion before I install the box .I bought the following Speedograph unit angle drive ...
RGB1030-09A 1:1.4 NR ¾ x 26 / 3mm Square .....but having difficulty inserting the male square into the female slot on the gearbox. I note some of these angle drives come with 2.6mm squares ..also the square has a wire wrapped around it ... any advice, experiences etc ???

The only experience I have with these is the ones I just ordered for some kits and gearboxes for my friends and me, and we've not installed any of them yet. However, I think the 2.6mm or 3mm square that is mentioned is the aperture of the female output side. The input part should be Ford T9 in all cases of the RGB1030. It seems unlikely that yours has been made wrong, but I suppose it's possible. As I understand it, S-R puts those together as needed (particularly when a ratio other than 1:1 is ordered).

I am expecting that to go right in, but (as I said) I haven't installed one yet. I'm nearly to that point, so maybe later today I'll have more suggestions.

Neil, I just checked my records and the angle drive you purcahsed is exactly the same one that I bought for my 5 speed conversion on my MGA Coupe in Nov 2008. I didn't have any problems at all inserting it into the gearbox female end. In fact the RGB 1030 angle drive is specifically designed for the T9 gearbox, so it should fit perfectly unless it's damaged somehow.

I think I'd either email Speedograph or phone them and tell them your problems. I always found them very helpful everytime I contacted them. let us know how things turn out.

I realised about 10min after posting the comment that the 3mm referred to the female output side...sorry!
I tried the cable provided by Hi-Gear (ie no angle drive ) and it fitted into gearbox female ... also examined the angle drive male and it looks like the wire has unravelled a little and makes the square a little oversize. Will try to file, crimp ( whatever ) to get it back to size...Thanks for comments!

Got in on ...but did think for a while I was about to overwhelmed with an ever increasing birdsnest as the wire unravelled....
