MG MGA - Spring first start
I found to my cost that I should have at least started the car occasionally over the winter and better still taken it around the block for a run. Last Friday I had to take the car for its annual MOT (late start this year) it had not been moved since October last year. First thing I noticed was the petrol leaking from the bottom of the jet adjustment nut, this cured itself when the cork gasket expanded with the petrol. Second thing was I could not get the car in gear, clutch corroded to flywheel, cured that by puling starter with foot on clutch to break seal. Car passed MOT ok, went for a local drive to fill the tank and on the way back home I got a speeding ticket 41mph in 30 limit £60 fine and 3 points on licence first since I started driving in 71. 58A |

Bad Luck Dave - I too got caught last summer by one of the mobile radar units that lurk around corners right after a 60 mph stretch - and I might have been caught last week by a another one - although not in the A. I try to use my A at least once a week over winter as long as it is dry - great on a frosty morning as long as no salt - cheers Cam |
