MG MGA - Starter cover - not!
Last week there was an exchange on starter covers, and tunnel humps for cars with high mounted starters. It was suggested that MOSS could supply a starter cover, to be fitted to the bell housing, and this was item 11 on page 44 of their catalogue. I have this rubber "cover, starter drive" in my hand now. It turns out this is a piece of ribbed rubber with thickness less than a floor mat. It is intended to be fitted over the hump on a high starter tunnel, inside the car, alongside the carpet. In a right hand drive car this would serve as a foot rest for the drivers left foot alongside the clutch pedal. In a left hand drive car it would serve no purpose other than to cover the steel hump. It is not a starter cover for the bell housing, nor is it suitable to be fitted to a low starter tunnel to convert it to a hump on a high starter tunnel. It goes over the hump. Perhaps MOSS could change their description to reflect the application of this piece of rubber? Peter. |

I converted my trans tunnel to the high starter and got the hump from Scarborough Faire part#U93. If you use a gear reduction starter, you wouldn't need to add the hump. |

Peter, if you had read RJ Browns and my response to that thread you'd have saved your self some grief- |

Thanks Gary. I had already ordered what I thought was the "hump", on the advice of my local MG parts stockist, prior to reading the earlier input on this topic. The reason for my involvement was to try to source a steel hump to make the tunnel conversion. The posting here was to give others an idea what it was MOSS was selling, and to avoid the misdirection the part description may lead to. Peter. |
