MG MGA - Starter motor removal

I'm trying to remove my starter motor. Both fixing bolts undone but removing the motor upwards is blocked by distributor and downwards by clutch pipe. Is there a way of proceeding without disconnecting either of these components? If not, what is the best method, up or down? Advice gratefully received.

No - you have to remove the distributor to slide the motor out - easy job really - just make sure you mark the dizzy plate before you take it off so you can put it back in the same place and not disturb the timing.

I have removed it a few times and the easiest route was to remove the oil filter and then slide the starter forward to get its drive clear ...and then rotate the drive upwards and drop ithe starter body down between the chassis members. Needs juggling but the clearances are there ..quite quick. ....
