MG MGA - starter switch
Yesterday I installed a new starter pull cable and after attaching the cable to the starter switch I attempted to start the engine, but an arch welding started to occur at the switch mount. Do I now need a new switch or am I missing some insulator on the cable? |

If it has a white nylon insulator around the terminal posts, see a defective parts report here: http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/faulty/ft004.htm |

Thanks Barney, I read your article this morning, but not sure if I have that one or not, but will take a hard look this evening. The funny thing is that it works fine when I pull it at the switch. I would think I'd fell something if the pull arm is charged.. |

Posibly a defective switch or it is hooked up wrong. Both cables should only touch the studs and should be insulated from the body of the switch. The starter could also be shorted or hooked up wrong. |

took the switch off and its a Lucas part# 76423A 4 57 I am assuming its orginal so 50 years is about the life of a Lucas starter switch. It rattles when I shake it. So anyone have any issues with a replacement from Moss? or one from NOS on Ebay? |

Bought one from Moss ten years ago, no problems yet. |
