MG MGA - Static timing pointers
I was just about to check the static timing on a late '59 MGA 1500 with a 15GD series engine. I noticed that the timing chain cover has a total of 4 pointers - 3 small leading up to the large TDC indicator. Everything I can find tells me there should be only 2 small pointers plus the large TDC. Anyone know what engine this cover may be from? Do you think I "assume" that the small pointers are 5 degree increments; -5,-10,-15 from TDC? I don't have another car to compare against. Thanks, Dave |

David You probably have an MGB cover with the improved rubber oil seal. The marks are each 5 degrees. Steve |

Thanks for the info Steve. I did look around on Barney's site and found a description for the MGB cover but it had a total of 5 pointers so I discounted it. I'm not familiar with B's and I assumed that on a B they had moved the pointers to the top side. I'll try to get a better look and see if I just missed one pointer and there is really a total of 5. |
