MG MGA - Steering column
I have the steering column in, still slack bolted. I notice that there is some leeway in the outer tube position, so I'm wondering what is the best position (longitudinally)? Mine has the adjustable extension and right now I have about 1/4" gap between the rear end of the tube and the chrome clamp. Is this about right? |

I am only 5'7" and have mine pushed back as far as everything will go |

Dominic, I am not refering to the steering shaft or wheel location, just the outer tube. The shaft location is fixed by the pinch bolt at the U-joint. there is some freedom to locate the outer tube fore and aft. |

Hi Art I understood that. As the outer tube is flared at the top end, getting the outer tube as far towards the front of the car as possible can give you a cm or two extra in getting the steering wheel further back as well. I did perhaps erroneously assume that you have an adjustable column. |

I do have the asjustable column! Hence my ref. to the chrome clamp (which locks the position after adjustment). I will do as you did and move the tube as far fwd as possible. I'm 5-10. Thanks |
