MG MGA - Steering Wheel Gloves on eBay

Just bought a nice leather steering wheel glove from these people http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260618337012&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:GB:1123 Large diameter wheel gloves seem to be hard to come by now, so I was very glad to find this one, and at the very reasonable price of £18.99 post paid. The quality and fit is suberb, but it does take quite a long time to stitch on! It makes the standard steering wheel feel much more comfortable. IMPORTANT: the glove is listed for a Morris Minor, so you have to let the people know that you want it for an MGA and give them the dimensions (420mm diameter and 63mm circumference around the hand grip) so that they can supply the correct size. I have no connection with the supplier.

Another picture of the stitching.

That's looks a good buy -I have a wooden Motalita at the moment but am hoping to refurb the original so this looks a perfect add on - cheers Cam
Cam Cunningham

Can I bring a pair of my old moccasins down to Devon later this month for you to re-stitch for me Lyndsay?

Never heard you and Cam talking "cobblers" before!

Sorry couldnt resist it!

Looks good - I think I will invest in one too. By the way, what is the knob below your radio blanking plate?

Lindsay

I am surprised with you, a non standard modification. I find I get great acceleration and cruising round the country lanes without a glove.

Similar to Steve ..when I saw Lindsay's moniker and the subject I thought I would be looking at a pair of string back driving gloves( remember them ) or similar to go with a plaid flat cap..not a semi permanent shroud for the original steering wheel.
Neil Ferguson

Graham, it's a cigarette lighter. It fills the hole made by a PO to fit a windscreen washer. Why anyone would want to put the windscreen washer where it can only be operated by the passenger I do not know!

Steve, legitimate period accessory http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/accessories/at125.htm

Neil, prefer to have my gloves attached to the steering wheel so I don't lose them, and don't do hats of any sort, still got plenty of hair, and Steve, the speed I go at, I would need a strap to keep it on!

I hope you don't safeguard your driving gloves by tying them together with string through your jacket sleeves!

I'll tell you what Steve, it would be nice to go back to the last time I DID have my gloves fastened that way. That would be around the time the EX182s were being designed! Anyway I don't need gloves with my steering wheel glove, and I think it looks pretty good!

Trying to think where I last saw cross stitching like that Lyndsay.

Were you a corsetier or similar at some time in your career?

Oh yes, I remember now, it was very interesting lace up leather bodice type thing that my wife wore on the night that we..........oh dear!........ahem!..... perhaps not really suitable for this forum I think!

I can understand now why you like it so much Lyndsay!

Does you wife now have to throw a bucket of cold water over you to get you to let go of the steering wheel?

Colyn

Colyn Firth

I think you need to throw a bucket of cold water over yourself Colyn!
Lindsay Sampford

Hey Lindsay, you are challenging Steve Gyles for eBay fame!

Lindsay is either trading as customsteering or is due royalties!

Looks very like your car in the ad Lyndsay!

So do we now have to call you "Mr Steering" as shown in the picture?

Colyn

Colyn Firth

Colyn, no I'm definitely not "Mr Steering"! Yes, it is my car, the guy asked for a picture of it fitted, I guess the picture of the Morris Minor in the original ad is probably a customer's car as well.
Lindsay Sampford

Is this the same cover offered here in US?

Joe, it's the same size, but the one I got came loose, not in fancy packaging, and the nylon thread to sew it on with was wrapped round a piece of card. I get the impression that mine was made especially to fit, because the wanted the diameter and circumference of the grip and it didn't come straight away. Anyway, I've driven the car about a hundred miles since fitting it and it does feel a lot more comfortable and "grippy".
