MG MGA - Steering Wheel Paint

Greetings all,

I recently purchased on original steering wheel that requires the ususal crack repair at the spokes. Once I've done so, which paint have you found to give the best and longest lasting finish? Cheers!

Hi Robert,

I used black Krylon for Plastics to repair my steering wheel cracks, but alas, have no experience with longevity. It was the first part of the car I have actually completed and I'm still working on replacing the sills.

It seems to bond pretty well, but read the directions carefully for recoats, as I found out the hard way.

Overall, I'm pleased with the results, but have no idea how it will hold up.

I would use an epoxy paint of some kind. Some other paints soften up when they get hot sitting in the sun. Don't ask how I know this.

Thanks for the "heads-up" Ed....I won't ask.

I repaired my steering wheel cracks with JB Weld. It takes several steps to fill. I did all the prep work related to scratches and other nicks as well. Then I took it to a local body shop for painting. I'm not sure what kind of paint they used, but I'm sure it was better than anything I could have done, it turned out great, and only cost about $60.
