MG MGA - Steering Wheel Shaft

Could someone please tell me the size and type of thread on the steering wheel shaft.
Mine is slighly damaged and needs re-cutting with a die, i have taken the nut to a good supplier to check with a tap first but no luck.
Failing this i guess i will have to use a thread restorer.
Thanks
S Newton

I have had good luck by using the proper nut it self. I cut a slot in the nut and install it all the way on past the bad thread area. Then install a small hose clamp around the nut closing up the gap where you sawed it Then with care you can slowly remove the lubricated nut and it will chase the bad threads. Take care and it will do the job.

S Newton,
I think 28 threads per inch is the best fit. Have a good day!

I agree with John i.e. 28 tpi and 11/16" major diameter. I'm not sure about thread geometry but there is a standard constant pitch 28 thread UNF series and my guess is that it's this one. It's too fine for the standard UNEF (extra fine) series. Mike
