MG MGA - Steering Wheels- Japan

I'd like a wood 14in. steering wheel, and "showcase" from Japan on EBAY offers many; but never with hubs. I've enquired, but he doesn't seem to have them. Most appear to have 6 bolt patterns. Anyone know a reasonable(cheap) source or solution? Thanks, and happy holidays to the pleasant civilized folks on the MGA BBS website. Bob Prentice

Bob,
Check with Mike Lempert of Lempert Wheels. http://www.pbase.com/mdlempert/wheels
His wheels and hubs are the best, but are reasonably priced.

Bob,

I live in Japan and there are many nice steering wheels here. You won't find a hub here to fit it, though. What you do find is that even with the six bolt pattern there are 2 choices. One for Nardi type, one for Momo type (an adapter is available to switch from one to the other.

Now being 6'2" i found that the original wheel was too large. I found a nice 14" Momo with a flat bottom for extra space.

My solution was to take an old steering wheel, machine it down, add a front plate and tap holes for the new wheel. Of course I drilled for Nardi and ended up with a Momo but oh well.

I had the time and patience to do it at that time, but if I had to do it again I would buy a hub and the ones from Lempert look nice!

Good luck!

Thank you Steve & Tom, I too am 6'2" and didn't know there was such a thing as a flat bottom wheel. I'll look further. I like the homemade ElCheapo hub idea too. Maybe Mike Lempert will solve it all. Bob Prentice
