MG MGA - Stolen MGA

Hi Guys.
The beige A with the smooth valance, head fairing and gold wheels featured in the "...GT-32" and "... Smooth valance" thead is mine. I've always wanted to show it to you but could never figure-out the technology. I really hope you like it.
Last night, after getting home from Whistler, it was stolen. I had an elctrical fire (just smoke) on the way home with the pizza. Parked it, and retuned to find it gone. I had it for 27 years. Get yours insured!
Please keep an eye-out for it or its components. It has a Ford 5-speed, very well developed 18V engine, roller rockers, Maniflow intake and exhaust manifolds, MGA SUs....
By the way Rich, very nice pictures.
Thank you.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Maybe it will turn up, I sure hope so. It's amazing how these kind of things cut into your soul.
Tom

Sorry to hear that Steve, I will keep an eye out for it. Hopefully the cops will check the port as many of our cars head out that way. I have an inline hydralic brake lock that locks up all four wheels to help prevent it from being stolen. It should slow someone down but if they want it, its gone. There was a person who had theirs taken last year from Santa Monica. I hope the police find it for you.

Steve, -- Send me some pictures, and I will post it on MGAguru.com

Steve, -- I have your theft notice plastered all over my web site. See here:
http://mgaguru.com
http://mgaguru.com/mg01.htm
http://mgaguru.com/mgtech
http://mgaguru.com/guest/meline

I need information to contact you and/or the police. Any other information about the car you would like to include?
Barney Gaylord

Steve, Very sorry for the bad news. The cops should offer a reward to dock workers for every stolen car they find in a container. This would be an incentive to not turn away when they see something wrong. MONEY TALK...BS WALKS.

One a side note .....Jeff could you give some extra details about your hydraulic brake line lock.

Lets spread the word... I'll post it on the MGVR site right away!

Steve, I am so sorry about this. I know how much work you have put into that car. If there is anything I can do to help please don't hesitate to ask.

Have to tried impound yards or tow companies? Hopefully it was just joyriders and the car will be found intact.

One more note, post photos and info everywhere! Contact local British car clubs and I'm sure they will put the info in their newsletters. There is also a local forum you can post on at http://www.socalbritishmotoring.com

I would also post on the Moss forum and British Car Forum since both have local members.

Gordon, check out Barney's site for brake booster. I put this in when I put the new booster in. The lock came out of a jet airplane, (the advantages of being near Douglas aircraft surplus store). I also wired in a dead mans switch. If the brake lock is on and I turn the ignition switch on, a loud alarm goes off warning me the system is on and do NOT drive the car. The car will have to be dragged to get it to move. I have had my car for over 36 years and like Steve, it is one of the family.

Oh Bugger! Sorry to hear this Steve.
Fortunately with your car being so distinctive it will be easy to spot if it appears in public.
For those who haven't seen it here is a pic.
Man-I am just sick thinking about this that car is a gem. I think of all the hundreds of hours in it and it just gives me a sinking feeling.

Good luck with the recovery.

Steve,

What's your contact info? And, have you checked to make sure the city didn't tow it?

Steve

Since you are near the Ports of LA and Long Beach it wouldn't hurt to circulate a "STOLEN - REWARD" FLYER with the longshoreman's union for that area. Also send to US Customs and whoever "inspect" outgoing cargo and containers.

I've posted the info everywhere i can think of including online forums, email lists and my own web site. I'm praying we return this one to its owner.

Hi Steve very sorry to hear about your car, I was only just looking at the pics from Whistler, it is almost too distictive to be sold as a complete car I would keep an eye on things loke ebay etc to see if any recognisable parts appear, the wheels for example I hope I'm wrong and it turns up safe and sound

regards Gordon

Steve, I am sorry to hear of your loss and also echo those that hope that it will be found. As I scan ebay, I will also keep it in mind.

Steve, can you email me with your contact info? Thanks.
Steve Simmons

Steve,
I have given your vehicle some thought, and while I hope that it will be retrieved complete and soon, I think that there are basically 2 options with your car. Because it is quite distinctive, I don't believe that anybody will try to sell it complete, unless they already have a sale, or it goes overseas. If they keep it, we will just have to see it at a show. The other option is to part it out, and that is where we need some information from you. If you could give us some info about particular components that would assist us in identifying them as yours should they go up on ebay, I think that we could better keep our eyes peeled.

Another thought is to send info and photo of the car to the vintage publications..they might publish at no cost.

Thank you all for your kindness and help. No word on the car yet. Sorry I haven't responded, The car was taken the night we got back from our Sonoma (MG2007) and Whistler (GT32) two week trip. I'm self-employed and was of course overwhelmed at work, and frankly dealing with more pain and depression than I expected. I really appreciate your support and help.

Since some asked my e-mail as shown above is melines@earthlink.net. Mary has some kind of a spam filter on but hopefully you can get through if you want to.

Additional components you could watch out for would be the:
burl dash with glove box,
that held a modern Panasonic CD-head,
Kenwood speakers,
there was a Bazooka tube sub wolfer in the trunk,
4-spoke Mono Lita steering wheel,
"saddle" colored interior (leather seating surfaces), red (Moss) 2-inch lowering springs,
3/4" MGB adapted anti-sway bar,
3.9 rear end,
Moss center-lock alloy wheels powder-coated gold.
As mentioned It is a 18V-1974 engine, number unknown, bored 20 over, APP nuts & bolts everywhere,
Harland-Sharp (copper colored) aluminum roller-rockers,
1974 big valve flowed head,
MGA 1600 SUs,
45D Lucus dizzy w/ pertronix
Lucus sport-coil
Moss radiator w/ high-efficiency re-core
MGB coolant expansion tank
body and interior colored upholstered head fairing
smooth front body color valance with texture-coating,
no bumpers on either end but over-riders mounted in rear
racing wind-screen made from cut-down stock frame and lexan "glass"
Current version of a fresh Moss grill
Raydot rear view mirrors, same gold powder-coat
(Yes, she was sweet.)

Thank you again. God is talking to me about not holding on too tightly to the things of this world. He is in control.

You know origionally I really wasn't necessarily looking for an MG. In 1979 when I found the car I would have been happier with a Healy, a TR or a Jag. But now the MG community has really gotten next to me and I would miss it so-besids, I got all those T-shirts! This week an old friend told me he has an old friend who has had her old uncles '58 in her garage for 5 years and want to get rid of it. Who knows? Saw a picture. Butt-ugly, but little rust seen and looks strait. I'll let you know. It could be the best medicine. Have to pray about that one.

Blessings and thanks again guys.

We should all keep are eyes open, and check E-Bay. Never know what might appear? The car has quite a few very special parts, not easily found. If someone tries to swap Vin plates, and re Tag the car it will be very hard to discuise. Lets keep the word on the streets, and maybe the guilty party will slip up.
