MG MGA - Strange Noise.....Found!
Thanks to everyone who offered great advice. Lots of ideas. When I got home, I had a few minutes of daylight left and I decided to pull the driveshaft and start there as I recently had it out to replace the rear gearbox seal. Upon inspection, I noticed that the dust cover was not squarely seated, and in fact it could be pressed on and removed easily by hand. A quick glance inside revealed a nice shiny spot. Bingo. Anyway, since I don't have a shop or the time, I just took a pair of pliers and bent the inside flange in to create a nice compression fit and used kid gloves and a soft faced hammer to pop it back on. Plan on getting it welded in the future, but for now this will have to do. |
