MG MGA - S.U Carb. identification
Goodmorning, I just purchased an S.U. 1-1/2" used carb. setup on e-bay. It was missing a part so It was a good price and I will have to clean it up some. My question is this, on an aluminum tage the letters and # that I could read were AUC 84. Could anyone tell me more about this carb set? Also the dampers have brass nuts not black plastic. Tom |

Tom Burlen still make SU Carbs and have all the original reference codes. AUC 84, however, does not come up in a search on their site. They are all 3 digits (eg AUC 840). This is their site page for all carbs: http://www.sucarb.co.uk/ProductCategory.aspx?ParentId=1 Steve |

Tom I have just phoned Burlen. Your carb is off a 1930s Lagonda 4.5 litre supercharged. It is 1 5/8", not 1 1/2". You are best emailing or phoning Burlen: http://www.sucarb.co.uk/contact.aspx Steve |

Wow, I"m not so sure its 1-5/8"? I thought I measured the opening and it was 1-1/2". I will measure it tonite. Thank you Steve, you are really being very helpful. I also looked at the needles and they looked very thin not looking at all like the MGA needles I have in my 1956. |

Yes, the Burlen chap queried the diameter. He started to describe where you measure it on this era of carb. Worth emailing them. They have all the documentation and are very knowledgable. Steve |

Steve, I believe that the one number I could not see on the aluminum tag was a 7 and that is between the AUC and the 84 so that tells me it is from a MGA 1500 engine. Thanks for your help, Tom |

Tom What a shame. Seemed like you had a valuable find. Steve |
