MG MGA - SU Needles
I am building up a early MGB 1800 engine for my A. Its a 66 5 bearing . Its pretty much standard . I intend using the MGA H4 carbs. Has anybody got a good starting point for carb needles as i assume the 1600 needles will be no good and no B was ever fitted with H4 carbs.. Thanks Roy |

Roy I transferred absolutely everything that was external on my 1500 to an 1800V. I just retuned using all the existing kit. I did have a tuning issue with the carbs, but that was due to excessive fuel pressure from a non standard fuel pump and nothing whatsoever to do with the diffent engines. I retained the same jet needle. Steve |

Roy, Just fitted a 67 B engine with 5-speed gearbox to my 56 roadster 2 weeks ago. Used the carbs off the 1500 engine without changing needles. Although I have only done about 60 miles so far, this seems a good starting point. Won't know more until I have done about 200 miles, retorqued the head, and adjusted the valve clearances. Then I will check the mixture by looking at the spark plugs. It has real get up and go at the moment, so the mixture can't be far off. Peter. |

1600/1622 MGA is essentially the same as early 1800, but uses H4 carbs, so that is the best starting point, works perfectly. #6 needles, which is the "standard" for 1600 or "rich" needle for MGB, #5 is "standard" for MGB. MGB with free flow filters usually wants #6. FRM |
