MG MGA - Sump
I have just removed the sump off my 1800 as part of my general engine inspection/light overhaul and repaint. I was intrigued to find a small sectioned off area in one corner of the sump. What is it for? See image. Steve |

Oil return from the block (there's an oilway there in the block) ? |

Thanks Dominic. I suspected that after I posted. Steve |

Sorry to be a pain but I don't understand. I thought the spent oil drained from various placed straight down into the sump. Are you saying its collected first to go down that teeny weeny tube ? |

That is the location of the oil return from the pressure relief valve. The little duct in the corner of the sump will direct the PR bypass oil down the tube to the bottom of the sump, hopefully avoiding a lot of bubble creation if it was sprayed out forcefully on the top surface of the oil. |
