MG MGA - Suspect Bores ?

Hi
My mga recently blew its head gasket.
There are rust stains around the top of the bore where this happened.
Is it ok to just replace the gasket or do I need to investigate further ?

Looks pretty light.
Scrub it with some oiled 220 emery and clean it up
If the gasket blew on that cyl it must have let in some water .

Replaced now , I’ve drained the oil do I need to make sure
All the old oil is out of the engine ? If so how ?

If you have drained all of the old oil out DJ, then there will almost none of the old stuff left in there and so I wouldn't worry.

Its not as if you have had any catastrophic mechanical failure in the engine which has left metal debris inside.
It it makes you happier, just run it for a short time and change the oil again.

I tend to change my engine oil and filter twice a year, I know that could be considered to be more than necessary, but this engine was quite expensive and so I would like it to last as long as possible.

DJ, visual inspection alone may not identify other issues within the cylinder bore, this may include out of round or tapering of the bore. If the pistons are out, you should take appropriate measurements to make sure the cylinder bores are perfectly cylindrical before you perform any wall reconditioning or re-installation of the pistons.

I wouldn't worry unduly about the bores - more important is to check the block and head surfaces for flatness - especially where the gasket has blown.
