MG MGA - swapping motors
The leading question should be are the back plates from both motors the same. Make a note. Offer it to others who may be doing this. Saves a lot of heartache. There are two different back plates, a low mount start and high mount starter. You may need to remove and replace the old engine back plate to match. Or at least verify if they match. Arrggghhh. There are several different engine rear plates. You need to use the rear plate that matches the mating gearbox. See here: http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/engine/cs200.htm http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/engine/cs200a.htm To mate a 5-main bearing engine to a 3-synchro gearbox, use the plate originally mated to the gearbox, bore out the center hole to accept the rubber seal, and plug the original drain slot on the front side of the plate. |
