MG MGA - Tachometer
My engine does not have the mechanical tach, so I have a surplus MGA tach. I'm looking to fit an MGB tach instead. Anyone want to swap or trade? |

Art, If it is an electrical tach for MGB that you seek, you will need to get one for the correct polarity. (You can have them converted, or do it yourself as per Barney's site.) You might also need to state the diameter of the MGB tach as they got smaller on later cars. Cheers, Peter. |

Art, I have an MG electric tach that I used in my MGA while I had the Magnette engine in it. I have removed that motor (today!) and I can use a mechanical tach and would gladly exchange. I am not sure if I have the MGB tach face...I have to check that. I used the face plate from an MGA tach to look correct. Maybe you want to retain your face plate as well. Let me know. Steve |

Art Worth noting that the MGB tacho will be a Smiths, whereas your MGA mechanical version is a Jaegar. You may want to consider keeping the original item in your stores bin if ever you sell the car on etc. I have the same issue and it is on my list to fit a Jaegar dial and pointer - not that high up the list at the moment mind you. Art: I'll have to check that I can find it - but I had an MGB electric tach in my MGA back in the 70's. My car is positive ground. Fairly certain it is a "Smiths" - what a great name. I could use an air cleaner cover & 2 screens and a gas cap. John |
