MG MGA - Tachometer cable length

When I did the final re-assembly of my MGA last spring, I found that the tach cable was too short to mount the tach on the left of the steering wheel, and the speedo cable was a little long. LHD car.

I ended up just putting the tach on the right and all the cables fit fine. I saw somewhere in the archives that there had been a problem with the replacement cable lengths and that many people had to install them this way. I know many prefer this configuration--I don't want to get into that "which is best" discussion.

I bought the tach cable in '92 so it may have had a problem with the length. It has a flange to flange length of 34.75".

Does anyone know if current cables from Moss, SF, or others are any different in length than the older replacement cables? Will they fit a left mounted tach on a 1500 LHD using the proper routing and holes in the firewall?

Thanks, Jim

I have a new LHD tach cable from Moss USA. Flange to flange length is 38". Looks like your cable is too short.

Speedograph-Richfield have the length of their cables as part of the catalogue numbers (see www.speedograph-richfield.com). So the rev.counter cable lengths are resp. 38" and 48" for LHD/RHD whereas the speedo length is 63" for both. None of the MG models listed have a length of 35". Mike
